You'll do it if you really want to-Fitfulelements.com
The gift of accomplishing a goal is highly rewarding. For a long time since college I had been having an urgency to complete a 5k run, but, whenever the opportunity would present itself to me, I would never follow through with it. I even helped plan a 5k run with someone that I didn’t even do in the end! I knew I had the ability to do it with all of the physical training that I put myself through, but it was still that thing called procrastination holding me back from doing it. It was just a matter of actually taking the time and initiative to take action.
Finally, I was presented with yet another opportunity to participate in a 5k run through an organization called My Sister’s House and the cause was for battered women and children. Immediately I was struck with a brink of excitement and in that same moment doubts about whether or not I should follow through and really do this run followed the excitement. The entire week before the race I went back and forth about whether I should do it or not do not, did I really want to get up that early on a Saturday morning and run? Possibly, I could sleep in and get some extra rest, just maybe. It had been one of the most productive weeks of the month and I played with the option of giving my weekend to solely myself by just resting and not doing anything. So many options weighed my mind and by Thursday of that week I made a solid decision that I was going to do the race no matter what.
The evening before I got a text from my mom saying that it would be chilly and rainy and this news honestly made me think twice about following through because I truly disliked running in cold weather with added rain! I had to remember my commitment that said “ I will do it no matter what” and this deleted all other options for me and it is what enabled me to follow through with crossing the finish line at 25 minutes that cold and rainy day.
Although my hands were nipped and freezing, the feeling of finally following through with what had been on my heart for some time made me warm all over. Whatever you want to do, whether it is a big goal or a small goal, if it keeps pressing your heart on the inside, then there is a good reason to pay attention to it. Putting it off only prolongs it until it comes back to get your attention for you to complete. Goals can soon become gifts to us that bring lasting rewards in the end.
